Why should I get my dog groomed every 4 to 6 weeks?
Non-shedding dog breeds are especially susceptible to matting, including Poodles, Bichons, Shih Tzus, Lhasa Apsos, and Terriers. We recommend these dogs receive groomings every 4 to 6 weeks, to make sure their coat remains healthy, clean and manageable. We recommend that shedding dogs receive groomings every 8 to 12 weeks, but make sure you are still regularly brushing their coats at home!
Can my dog’s fur be brushed out if it is matted?
If a dog’s fur is matted, it will have to be shaved. Brushing out a mat can be very painful for your pet! Plus, your pet’s fur will look damaged even if we can brush out the mat. However, if your pet has just a couple of mats, we will remove them or just shave off the mat.
How long will it take for my dog to be groomed?
It takes about 1.5 to 2 hours for us to groom small and medium-sized dogs. Larger dogs generally take 2 to 2.5 hours, as do dogs who are being de-matted or hand-scissored. Our goal is to make sure your pet receives a thorough and proper grooming as efficiently as possible!
Can I cancel an appointment?
We ask that you provide us with 24 hours advance notice when cancelling an appointment. We will have to reschedule an appointment if you arrive more than 30 minutes after your allotted time. We do keep track of if you don’t show up to your appointment, and if you No Show twice, we will ask you to pay for your grooming in full before your next appointment, with a $10 added charge. This is so we can ensure as many pets as possible are able to be groomed each day!
When should I first bring in my puppy for a grooming?
Puppies are ready for their first grooming by the time they are 8 weeks old! We believe it is best to bring in your puppy as soon as possible, so they can become acclimated to the grooming process. During their first visit, they will just receive a bath, blow-drying, nail clipping, and maybe a small trim. We want to keep this first appointment as stress-free for your puppy as possible!
Can I remain with my pet while he or she is groomed?
We don’t allow owners to remain with their pets during a Professional Grooming, because pets become over-excited by the presence of their owner. This makes it difficult for us to properly groom your pet. We want to make sure that your pet is calm and attentive during the process so your dog can remain safe, especially because we are using sharp equipment around sensitive parts of the body.
Does my dog need to receive all vaccinations before coming to Splish Splash?
For your pet's health and safety, we recommend that your pet stays up to date on vaccination. We require that all dogs receive their rabies vaccination before their appointment. Receiving this vaccination keeps your pet and all of the other dogs at our salon as safe as possible.
Why is a pet grooming so expensive?
At Splish Splash, we strive to keep our prices as competitive and affordable as possible. However, our prices are what they are because grooming a pet can be difficult. During a grooming, dogs will receive an anal gland expression, eyes and ears cleaning, nail trim, and sanitary trim. Plus, many dogs tend to bite, scratch or poop while at the groomer’s!
What does the cost of grooming depend on?
The cost of grooming depends on your dog’s breed, the services he or she is receiving, the condition of their pet, and how well behaved they are during the appointment. That’s why we can only give you an approximate price ahead of time.
